Digital dentistry takes advantage of the latest digital technologies to enhance dental care. Digital dentistry uses digital and computer-controlled devices to ensure precision in dental procedures that are impossible with electrical or mechanical tools. At Orbis Dental Group, we use digital dentistry to provide our patients with exceptional results with every treatment.

Digital Imaging

Drs. Lee and Hachem carefully consider when radiographs are appropriate, following strict guidelines to minimize exposure time. Digital imaging can give us great insight into the condition of a patient’s teeth, jawbone, tooth roots, and nerves. We use digital radiography to detect cavities, tumors, and lesions that are not easily visible during a visual exam.

With digital imaging, exposure time is about 50 percent less when compared to traditional radiographs. Digital imaging can also help us retrieve valuable diagnostic information to ensure problems are discovered and treated early.

Digital imaging allows us to store patient images and quickly and easily transfer them to specialists or insurance companies.

Digital X-Rays

Unlike traditional x-rays, digital x-rays provide a high-resolution image on a computer monitor, eliminating the need for 35m films that tend to be indistinct and difficult-to-read films. With digital x-rays, the patient’s exposure to x-ray radiation is 80% lower than traditional x-rays.

Cone Beam CT Scanner (CBCT)

The Cone Beam scanner rotates around the head, taking multiple, three-dimensional images of the head and oral cavity from all angles. We use state-of-the-art, small volume cone-beam CT (computed tomography) technology that provides highly accurate, 3-D radiographic images for the diagnosis, planning, and treatment of various diseases. This allows three-dimensional visualization of teeth, bone, sinuses, and surrounding structures with minimal radiation to the patient, enabling a level of anatomical accuracy and patient care not possible with 2-D technologies (regular dental x-rays).

At Orbis Dental Group, we employ the Planmeca Ultra Low Dose™ protocol that combines high CBCT image quality with exceptionally low patient doses. It is the world’s leading low-dose imaging mode for supporting accurate diagnostics and allows clinicians to safely see more than ever before.

CBCT imaging changed dentistry in a big way at the turn of the millennium. It increased diagnostic accuracy and opened up numerous new possibilities by literally introducing a third dimension to dental radiology. Over time, patient doses have decreased considerably as CBCT imaging technology has advanced further. Special low-dose protocols have also been introduced. These days, numerous CBCT unit manufacturers offer some kind of alternative for low-dose imaging.

However, all options are not equal. Many manufacturers and their technology struggle to maintain diagnostically acceptable image quality at lower doses and the effectiveness of their so-called low-dose options has not even been proven.

In turn, the Planmeca Ultra Low Dose™ protocol supports diagnostic accuracy that remains high even at incredibly low patient doses.

Dental CAD/CAM

Computer-Assisted Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) allow our dental care team to design dental prosthetics, crowns, and veneers with greater precision for an incredible fit customized to your mouth. Our CAD/CAM imaging and software assist us in designing dental crowns, veneers, and more using digital images of your oral cavity as a template. Our doctors review each patient’s treatment plan with them on a high-resolution monitor, so they know what to expect and can ask questions. We then manufacture and refine dental prosthetics in our office to restore your dentition to our exacting standards.

 Dental 3D Printing

Dental offices used to send x-rays and dental impressions (remember that goop you had to bite down on?) to a dental laboratory, where dental veneers or dentures were manufactured and sent back to the office. The process could take weeks, and problems with fit often required sending the prosthetic back at least once. Dental 3D printing allows us to design and produce high-quality, precision-milled dental prosthetics and surgical guides for complex procedures.  The results are superior on several fronts, including better fit based on CAD/CAM, the ability to make needed changes in-house, and immediate results. With 3D printing, you can relax in the dental chair while your crowns, veneers, or prosthetics are made while you wait. You leave our office with your restorations the same day.

Digital Smile Design (DSD)
